Peppermint Hot Chocolate For Winter Immunity

The easiest + yummiest + healthiest holiday hot chocolate of all! This one's got the just what you need to keep your immune system happy while you enjoy the festivities of the season!

This hot chocolate features holiday flavors such as chocolate and peppermint. But we've added immune-balancing chaga mushroom, and protein-rich collagen. Keep your spirits bright with this delicious take on the seasonal classic.

This recipe is perfect for one serving, and is rich enough to be a meal if you like. Feel free to double up the batch and have a chocolate party with your friends

Gather Your Ingredients

  • 1 cup almond milk

  • 1 cup hot water or fresh brewed peppermint tea

  • 2 tablespoons cacao butter chips (try Sunfood)

  • 2 scoops chocolate collagen peptides (try Vital Proteins)

  • 1/2 teaspoon peppermint🍥 extract (I love Watkins)

  • 1/2 teaspoon chaga mushroom powder (Root & Bones is my favorite!)

  • 2 pitted Medjool dates (optional, but mineral rich sweetness is yum)

  • Whipped cream + crushed peppermint candy for garnish

Let’s Get Started

Start by gathering up all the ingredients (mis-en-place, people!). Then brew your peppermint tea and add it to a pot with the almond milk and cacao butter. Gently heat your ingredients until the cacao butter melts and the liquid is steamy.

Transfer to a blender and add the remaining ingredients. Blend on high for about a minute until it's nice and frothy. Pour into your favorite mug, top with whipped cream and crushed peppermint candy. Close your eyes while you sip and imagine your holiday wishes coming true!

Why these ingredients, and what the hell is chaga, anyway? 😂

Let's start with the cacao butter. This is the fat from cacao beans, and will make your elixir rich and creamy! Fats are especially good during the cold, dry winter.

I hope you know the goodness of collagen by now. It's got two amino acids you can't find anywhere else - proline & glycine. These two amino acids are required for the body to make collagen. 35% of collagen in the body is made up of glycine, and 25% is made up of proline. Add to that the fact that collagen makes up 25-35% of the total protein in our bodies, and you get a sense for how beneficial hydrolyzed collagen can be for our overall well-being.

Chaga is the king of medicinal mushrooms. It can ward off the common cold, fortify the immune system to protect from illness and autoimmune issues, lower inflammation, and make hair shinier, thicker and skin more glowing. Want to try it? Look for a brand that has dual-extract chaga powder. My favorite is by Root & Bones - but I'm not affiliated in any way.

Dates are a winter superfood! Mineral rich and oh-so-satisfying! Make sure to pit your dates before throwing them in the blender. Feel free to skip the dates if you're monitoring blood sugar. The chocolate collagen has stevia so its got some sweetness for you already.

Happy holidays to you!

May the season be filled with light & peace. 🌟

Abigail
